PIC: AFTERSCHOOL'S CLUB- CHILDREN LEARNING HURLING SKILLSThere are two great causes for celebration at the beginning of Spring with the re-opening of the nursery which was badly destroyed by flooding over the Christmas cold snap along with the launch of the after-school's club.
The children will have the opportunity to enjoy fun activities at the club ranging from sport and art to music and an environmental club through the Irish language. The club takes place Monday to Thursday after school, with some special trips being organised occassionally on a Friday also.
The nursery, Naíscoil Mhaol Íosa, re-opens in Febuary after an extensive refurbishment and we are sure that parents and children will be impressed when they see the all the changes.

The school will close half-day on Friday for the midterm break. The children will have their dinner as usual at lunch time and can be collected by parents at 1pm. The school re-opens on Monday 22nd February.
Heritage Project
P3-5 children are taking part in a local heritage project sponsored by the Big Lottery Fund. The project will delve into Derry’s history from its founding to modern times.
After-School Club
The club is now up and running with a programme of art, sport, games and music organised by the club co-ordinator, Róisín. The girls in P3-5 have begun attending netball classes along with children from Gaelscoil Eadáin Mhóir and we hope to start Hurling skills with Gearalt before too long.
There will be no club on Monday 22nd February due to staff Child Protection training.
C2K
BT has begun to install broadband into the school this week and the children should be able to access the benefits of the latest C2K computers and technology when they return after the mid-term break.
Student Teachers
We would like to warmly welcome Roma and Nadine to our school community for the next few weeks. They are currently at St Mary’s teacher college, Belfast and are doing their teaching practice with us. We wish them the best of luck.
Reminders
Dinners cost £2.10 for those who pay and I would ask parents to send in money in an envelope with the child’s name on it.
Now that the school has been recognised by the government, the local children’s welfare officer will be checking attendance and punctuality from time to time. School starts at 9.15am every morning and a note must be provided to the teacher for days missed.
We would like to remind parents to check for hair lice. Unfortunately, lice prefer to make their home in clean hair, however effective treatment is available from local chemists. A special comb, lotion and even spray repellent can be bought to identify and eradicate any problems.
